Senior Capstone Design Projects

UNIQUE EXPERIENCE

Live Business Updates with Industrial Experts

Beginning during the middle of students’ senior year and continuing through their final semester, Capstone Design Projects serve as a transition into the industrial workplace.

Students choose projects from a variety available, generally falling under the following categories:

  • Process Design (traditional and bio-based)

  • Laboratory Module Design

  • Product Design

Typical projects relate to chemical plant or complex water recycle/heat exchange network design, but many are created to build upon chemical engineering curriculum for future students. The HENOS and WADE custom software, as well as some of the laboratory modules, began as senior capstone design projects.

  • Students connect with industry mentors through the use of WebEx during project update presentations or scheduled meetings

  • Regardless of topic, the project contains a safety component that requires the completion of a standard industry analysis

  • Students work in teams of 3-4 persons to complete a chemical process/product design project throughout their final semester

  • Students present the main points in their project update reports to faculty and industry mentors every 2-3 weeks
